Emotions/ceem Flashcards

Emotion/ceem cards helps us learn the Hmong words for feelings. Feelings give us information about ourselves and how the world around us affects our inner selves. Once we know these words, we can start to identify how we feel and situations that bring about those feelings. Teaching Hmong emotion words is a great way to learn Hmong words, the sounds associated with specific letters while learning more about ourselves.
How to assemble these cards.
Recommended supplies to make assembly easier (paid links to Amazon):
- Printer
- Note: This is a well-reviewed color laser printer for the price; our specific printer (Brother 3140CW) is no longer manufactured
- 28 or 32 lb printer paper or cardstock
- Paper cutter
- Laminating machine
- Laminating sheets
- Hole punch
- Ring
- Print 2-x as slides. (Page 1 is my Terms of Use – be sure not to print it or the extra page will mess up the page orders!) I like to print on 28lb or 32lb paper. There will be 2 cards per sheet, front and back.
- Laminate the cards, hole punch the upper left corner, and put them on a ring.
Here are some ways to use the cards:
- Go through the cards one by one just for fun.
- Let your child be the teacher. They can pick a card and/or say each emotion and you act it out.
- If you really want to use these cards to teach Hmong emotion words, do a few at a time. Act each emotion out with props and exaggerated facial features.
- Lay down the cards. Talk about situations that bring on different emotions.
- Have fun incorporating emotions into play.
- After consistent review of the emotion cards over time, see if your child can remember the emotion word before turning the two-sided card over.
